With over 450 guests, the traditional New Year's reception of the Association of Freight Car Owners in Germany e.V. (VPI) set a new attendance record. At the 14th VPI Symposium on the following January 9th, the modernisation of the infrastructure and combined transport were the focus of the debates.

The railway is also involved in the transport logistics of the Russian Armed Forces for military actions against Ukraine. Subject to confirmation of the reports, pro-democracy hackers attacked central computers of the Belarusian state railway BelŽD (БелЖД) in order to delay the transport of Russian military equipment to the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.

The trade union ver.di and the Central Association of German Seaport Companies e.V. (ZDS) have reached a settlement at the Hamburg Labour Court. Three more negotiation dates will be agreed by July 22, 2022 to take place by August 26, 2022 and collective bargaining will continue. During this period, no further industrial action will be taken by ver.di with the plaintiffs' employees.

The portfolio of SBB Cargo's older mainline locomotives will reach the end of their economic and technical life in the coming years. That is why the Swiss company is now renting 35 modern Vectron mainline locomotives from the manufacturer Siemens Mobility.
