Berlin's district of Adlershof is booming. On April 13, 2022, Siemens Mobility presented its planned investment to the rail infrastructure department as a commitment to the Berlin location.

“I think it’s great what’s happening here,” said Berlin’s Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey at the presentation of the project in the Adlershof Science and Technology Park. “Siemens’ decision to settle here with the digital rail is a giant step towards further development for Berlin.”

Previously, Siemens Mobility had a development and production site in the Treptow district of Berlin. This is now being relocated to Berlin Adlershof. A modern new building is being built on Wagner-Régeny-Strasse (near Igo-Etrich-Strasse) in Germany’s largest science and technology park. The building will offer attractive offices as well as production and storage space, Siemens says. A leasehold contract with a term of 65 years was concluded between BEOS AG and the state of Berlin for the 26,420 m² property. BEOS AG will be responsible for project development for the entire construction project.

A win for Berlin – Franziska Giffey during her speech.

For Berlin’s Governing Mayor Giffey, as she explained at the presentation of the project, it is important that the new building project does not have a negative impact on the second Siemens location in Berlin-Spandau. And the deputy district mayor of Treptow-Köpenick, Carolin Weingart, was pleased that the Siemens relocation from Treptow to Adlershof is taking place within the same district due to the shape of the Berlin district borders.

“The knowledge-based industry in the science and technology park Adlershof keeps growing. We are pleased about Siemens Mobility’s clear commitment to location and the synergies that will result from this settlement,” says Roland Sillmann, Managing Director of WISTA Management GmbH, who develops and operates the Adlershof science and technology park.

Siemens Mobility has been based in Adlershof for over 25 years with a development department and around 150 employees. This department will be integrated into the new building, so that in future around 1,200 employees will work in the new Berlin branch in direct environment to innovative high-tech companies and scientific facilities work. The new building will have around 15,000 m2 of office, Conference and network areas as well as areas for production and storage.

Siemens Mobility (Rail Infrastructure) CFO Eva Scherer in conversation with CARGO-MANAGER journal editor-in-chief Hermann Schmidtendorf.

“Our employees can look forward to attractive jobs here, and communication, encounters and cooperation will be very important at this location.” Eva Scherer, CFO of the Rail Infrastructure division at Siemens Mobility, explained the new building project. She added: “Siemens and Berlin have been inextricably linked since 1847.”

The Siemens Group is thus celebrating its 175th anniversary this year. And the Berlin underground, which began operations 120 years ago, was also built by Siemens. In addition, Werner von Siemens in Berlin developed the first electric locomotive and the world’s first electric tram.

After the presentation on the campus, the hosts and their guests inspected the construction site. Also present: a model of the planned building complex. At present, there is still an open field, bordered on the horizon by railroad tracks. But with a little imagination you could already imagine how a highly modern production and development center will soon be built here.
