VDV Academy and eurailpress: seminars for the mobility industry

The VDV Academy and the dvv media platform eurailpress regularly organise important seminars, training courses and congresses. Some highlights are already known for 2023.

Already this week, on November 17-18, 2022, the 22nd International SIGNAL+DRAHT Congress 2022 will take place in the Maritim Hotel am Schlossgarten, Fulda. The interaction between vehicle and track, which plays an important role in the digitization of control and safety technology and rail traffic as a whole, is discussed in hybrid form. In addition to personal participation, digital participation in the live stream is also possible as an alternative.

The lectures on the first day of the congress range from questions of interaction at ATO via ETCS and CBTC to dealing with branch lines. The panel discussion once again sheds light on the question of the overall railway system from different perspectives. The second day of the congress is also about communication between the vehicle and the route. After a side glance at developments in road traffic, the focus is on the use of 5G and the future role of mobile communications networks and their security.

On 21.11.2022 – 22.11.2022 the VDV Marketing Congress will continue in Berlin. The motto is: More performance, more customers, move more: public transport marketing in times of transformation. In addition to the question of how public transport financing by the federal and state governments can be further strengthened, the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV) also wants to consider the possibilities and opportunities for transport companies in passenger transport to generate more income from B2B relationships.

“How can public transport win more customers in times of transformation? Trend researcher and futurologist Tristan Horx (Zukunftsinstitut) tells us what customers (in) the future will be like,” the organisers announce. In addition to classic marketing and sales topics, aspects such as the effects of operation and production on customers’ willingness to pay will also be discussed at the congress.

Two interesting congresses will take place in March 2023. On the one hand, there is the 19th Dresden International Rail Vehicle Conference from March 1st to 3rd, 2023 in the Congress Center Dresden. Towards the end of the same month, on March 27-28, 2023, the 7th VDV Future Congress on Autonomous Driving in Public Transport will take place in Berlin. The future congress takes place together with the 14th VDV electric bus conference and trade fair ElekBu in Berlin.

“Highly automated driving according to SAE Level 4 is about to be piloted in Germany, and the first projects are now following the legal approval,” the organisers explain. “Reaching the technical goal of safe, driverless driving at normal speeds in mixed traffic is still a challenge, as is the customer-oriented operation of a driverless public transport shuttle. We want to show you and find out together how far the technology has come and which work steps and goals the stakeholders are currently pursuing.”

On 27-28 On April 1, 2023, a seminar on “Employment Law for Executives” will take place in Cologne. Managers are often confronted with legal issues in their work, as the organisers know: “The content of the seminar should help to prevent labour law conflicts from arising in the first place or, if they have arisen, to master them.”

At the beginning there should be a basic understanding of labour law: “In the further course of the seminar we will deal with the legal questions of establishing and exercising an employment relationship. We also take a look at disruptions in the employment relationship and any terminations of employment that may result. You can expect an intensive seminar in a small group with other HR managers in Cologne.”

Call for entries: Award for excellent digital learning in public transport

This award will be presented for the second time by the VDV Academy for the transport industry – in 2023 again as part of the VDV Education Conference from 13.-14. June 2023. “Show your excellence in Digital Learning! Submit your project now!” entice the organisers.

The award for excellent digital learning in public transport 2023 is given in the following categories:

  • Compulsory training (e.g. GDPR, safety instructions, fire protection, compliance, IT security)
  • Learning unit related to the industry (e.g. new vehicles, crossing points)
  • (Learning) innovation (open category)

On June 27, 2023, the 6th Eurailpress Forum Alternative Drives in SPNV will take place in the Design Offices in Hamburg Hammerbrook. The organisers write: “Choosing the right drive and charging concept for each individual network continues to employ public transport authorities, transport companies and industry. And the market is also wrestling with organisational and financial issues.

“The event offers the opportunity to look at this future topic from the different perspectives of the actors involved.

Which strategies are the authorities pursuing for the comprehensive use of alternatively powered vehicles? Which technological developments on the vehicle side can be expected and how are the discussions on the implementation of the charging infrastructure progressing?”

This event will also take place in hybrid form, so it can be followed online.
