YOUR WISHES FOR 2022, MR REINSHAGEN? Strong rail freight traffic reduces CO2 emissions

Under this question we present answers from various personalities in the international cargo and rail sector. Peter Reinshagen, Managing Director of Ermewa SA in Paris, answers today.

Climate protection is a topic that has been on my mind for years. That’s why reducing CO2 emissions is at the top of my wish list – and will certainly continue to do so beyond 2022.

Strong rail freight traffic can make an important contribution here. We work with Ermewa Emphasis on implementation, which includes the development of new wagons – for example for the optimized transport of palletized goods – or cooperation with large retailers to develop new, rail-based logistics concepts.

My wish for the entire sector is that in 2022 we move forward with the introduction of the digital automatic clutch at speed. It creates the conditions for decisive leaps in efficiency – and thus for the shift of transport away from the road to the climate-friendly rail. Ermewa is also involved here, for example in the European DAC Delivery Program and the DAC4EU project.

My wish and my demand at the same time is: The EU must set up financial support programs so that we can get this key technology on track.
