ArcelorMittal and CFL cargo announced the strengthening of their partnership on December 17th, 2021. The signing of a new contract aims to improve rail transport between the ArcelorMittal production sites in Luxembourg and freight transport across Europe.

The partnership between ArcelorMittal and CFL cargo goes back to the establishment of CFL cargo in 2006. The services covered by the corresponding contracts include the transport of raw materials to the most important production sites in Luxembourg, internal transport between and at these production sites as well as the delivery of finished long products in Europe via the single-wagon load network. The provision of the adapted vehicle fleet for the transport of long steel products, including repair and maintenance services, is also part of the agreement.

Both partners are convinced that this cooperation will further advance rail transport and thus make an important contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, it was said at the ceremony.

Ms. Laurence Zenner, CEO of CFL cargo: “We are pleased to strengthen our cooperation with ArcelorMittal. Our range of rail transport solutions, as a seamless and sustainable means of transport across Europe, helps to further reduce CO2 emissions. Our partnership also shows how integrating rail services into industrial production sites can help increase their processing capacity. In addition, this cooperation has laid the foundation for the development of more energy-efficient rail solutions for the transport of final goods on important rail transport corridors.”

Mr. Roland Bastian, Head of Country ArcelorMittal Luxembourg: “Rail is an important factor in diversifying our logistical resources in order to supply our industrial sites with raw materials and to manage our deliveries of finished products. It has the advantage of being well positioned with regard to CO2 emissions and therefore fits perfectly into our CSR strategy. The renewal of this partnership reflects the common interest of our two companies and our common desire to strive for competitive, flexible and efficient logistics solutions.” www.cfl-mm.lu / red.
