VDV and BME Rail Freight Forum: Promoting rail transport with perseverance and imagination

The transport and logistics industry started the new year with positive momentum at the traditional 18th BME/VDV Rail Freight Forum in Berlin – despite the current recession and cost increases for using the railway lines. VDV Vice President Joachim Berends told CARGO FREIGHT JOURNAL: “When it comes to the railway, we must not think in short time frames when it comes to the approval of new infrastructure, financing, and maintaining the existing network. And that was the topic here.”

Italian ITA and ITA Airways Cargo become part of the Lufthansa Group

Negotiations have been going on for years, now it’s official. On January 13, 2025, the Lufthansa Group officially joined the Italian state airline Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA Airways). For a capital contribution of 325 million euros, Lufthansa is initially taking over 41 percent of Ita’s shares. The takeover also affects the activities of ITA Airways Cargo.

PORT OF KIEL: Positive balance in 2024 for cargo, ferries and cruises

The Swedish ferry company Stena Line is an important player in European shipping with 40 ships and 20 routes. Its ships are regular guests in Kiel. It was therefore routine that Stena’s Germany managing director Mikko Juelich was also present at the annual press conference of the PORT OF KIEL on January 15, 2025.
